Trapped/Alone
By Maria Soboleva
Acrylic on canvas
16 x 20 in
This painting was inspired by my claustrophobia. I reflected on what truly scared me about small spaces and I realized I hate being trapped or locked in, especially alone. People in prison experience this everyday so I felt it fitting to have a hand reaching out through jail bars. I wanted to make this a bright, almost graphic design with clean lines so I decided to use acrylic paint. The primary colors are meant to represent all the life trapped away in the dark, grey cell. I wanted to add drama and emotion through the intense color contrast.
